Refresher Courses

If you have not been professionally practising for 5 years or more due to illness, injury or other personal circumstances we may recommend that you go on a refresher course to update your skills.

How do I know if I need to attend a refresher course?

This is assessed on an individual basis and is dependent on the following:

  • The amount of time you have not been professionally practising
  • The amount of professional practice you have undertaken during this time
  • Whether you have been working in a similar field in the healthcare profession during this time
  • The type of CPD you have undertaken i.e. attending a bodywork workshop, massage or aromatherapy workshop, professional business development or essential oil seminars etc. during your sabbatical or recently.

Please prepare a portfolio of evidence of practice before your temporary retirement to the office for review i.e. CPD certificates, amount of hours been practising professionally or otherwise on friends/family etc.

What happens next?

Once we have received this information you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire available from the office. This will be marked by the education panel and the results sent to the individual with comments (if any) on areas of strength and weakness. If the panel are satisfied that you have maintained your continual professional development then you may rejoin the IFA as a member.

If it is thought that a refresher course is needed, we will recommend that you contact a tutor who will be able to spend between one to three days enhancing your skills to the current standards.

What if there is not a refresher course in my area?

If there is not a refresher course available in your area then we will recommend that you attend CPD courses in your area and submit your CPD certificates on completion.

Am I eligible to attend a refresher course?

Refresher courses are for those who have been trained by an IFA course provider and are returning to the profession after a break. We do not offer tailored refresher courses to those who have been trained by other educational bodies, however recommend that you attend an upgrade course, which will not only refresh your skills but build on them. Therapists are welcome to attend IFA accredited continual professional development courses, however please note these are different from a refresher course. Refresher courses are tuned to the individuals specific requirements for example updating the individuals skills in Aromatherapy massage as per the IFA syllabus.

What happens once ive completed the refresher course?

You will be granted a certificate of completion from the IFA head office and will be entitled to rejoin the IFA.
