Expert Panel of Advisors

The Council is pleased to announce the IFA Panel of Advisors. The panel members, together with their particular fields of expertise, are listed below.


Mr Tony Burfield

Advisor on Chemistry

Tony Burfield has now spent nearly 30 years in the aroma trade, mainly working hands-on with essential oils (their production, analysis and applications).  After initially qualifying as a food scientist, he returned to academia mid-career to do a further degree in biochemistry, eventually becoming a Chartered Biologist. This was followed by a period of post-doctoral research in the microbiological biotransformation of essential oil components at Cranfield University. Now deeply involved in perfumery, natural perfumery, and with natural products generally, Tony is an aroma industry consultant, looking  after the interests of various essential oil, cosmetic and fragrance clients, from the small to corporate (especially those with “green portfolio” intent). Tony also  writes, lectures and produces educational  materials  on aromatic topics. Tony is the author of Natural Aromatic Materials – Odours and Origins (2000) the privately published second  edition of which (updated and completely revised) is to be released shortly.


Jane Johnson

Anatomy and Physiology

Jane Johnson is a chartered physiotherapist with a passion for helping health and fitness professionals understand common assessment and treatment methods. A former massage therapist, Jane is keen on the dissemination of information to support therapists. She is the author of Soft Tissue Release (2009), Deep Tissue Massage (2010), Postural Assessment (2012) and Therapeutic Stretching (2012). Her 5h book, Postural Correction will be published in November 2015 and The Big Back Book: Tips & Tricks for Therapists in 2016. She is an Expert Witness for cases involving soft tissue therapies and physiotherapy. For the last two years she has worked as a specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist in the field of occupational health, advising employees and employers about how to avoid and manage musculoskeletal conditions.

Mr Bradley Whale


Bradley Whale is a registered member of the GOSC (General Osteopathic Council) and BOA (British Osteopathic Association). Post Graduate Diploma in Equine Osteopathy, Bachleor of Osteopathy, Qualified Sports Massage Therapist. After qualifying from the British School of Osteopathy in 2005. Bradley immediately embarked upon an intensive period of personal study. Studying cranial sacral, chiropractic, physiotherapy, acupuncture, bowen therapy as well as many more therapies. The reason for this period of intensive study was because Bradley believes that not one therapy or theory truly encompasses the complexities of the patient.


The Council is grateful to all the new panel members for their interest in the IFA and its development, and looks forward to working with them over the coming months. We are sure their knowledge and expertise will make a major contribution to our efforts.
